You know it really pisses me off when an official has to watch everything they do because someone might be watching or take notice of it. Wether its good or bad. But a coach can yell, screem or even print smut about the on ice offiaicals and nothing happens.
What do you guys think??

Coaches are routinely fined at high levels for criticizing officials to the media. In the NHL a player can be fined up to US$1000 and there is no limit for a coach. It is not uncommon for the organization to be fined as well.

I understand that, but when you look at many of the junior coaches they have absolutley no respect for the officials. Again I say many because there are the select few that are okay to deal with. talk about coaches disrespecting officials. The was just an articule about a junior ref that he was bias becuase he lived in the same city he was reffin in. He really laid into him. They might get a small fine but if an official were to reply to this or write something like this about a player or coach that official most likley wouldn't be doing that hockey much longer.

I have officiated at the pro level, college level and high school level. You find good coaches are calm and for the most part honorable. Bad coaches who have little knowledge of the rules because they are to damn lazy to learn them become emotional fools much like their players end up behaving.
Remember on any call we make we are only going to be at best half right. One coach will love us the other hates us for the call, right or wrong.
I have learned the bad coaches I just apply the rules, leave the personal attitude out of it and remind him we never get along regardless of my call. That does work.

The solution to screaming coaches is easy:
Look at the rulebook closely because you can always use the rule about abusing an official.
I usually take thes steps to shut up a coach
1st: warn them to keep it quiet.
2nd: if the arent quiet, give them a bench minor
3rd: if the still wont shut up give them a bench minor and a game misconduct
4th: and if that doesnt help let him be removed from the building.
